An unforgettable character.....

By Prof. Tim Sly, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. I first met "Mr. Bell" in 1985 at a meeting at Barbados Community College. For the next ten years, Mr. Bell figured prominently in a series of meetings and initiatives between the Caribbean Association of Env. Health Officers and the Canadian Public Health Association. He was clearly highly respected by his colleagues in the Region and overseas. He impressed me with his gentle but firm leadership, his memory, his integrity, and his vision. He once told me that his name was due to his father's admiration of the old German leaders. Hindenburg and Kitchener were blended into Hinkitch, and I suspect a good measure of those leaders' diligence and determination was transferred also. Mr. Bell will be greatly missed. He was one-of-a-kind in every sense. Rest in peace.
